Test Run of Shougang Jingtang Edge-trimming Revamping Project for #1 Continuous Annealing Line Goes Successfully at its First Trail Production

Recently, the edge-trimming revamping project for Shougang Jingtang’s #1 continuous annealing line, undertaken by China National Heavy Machinery Research Institute Co., Ltd. (Sino-heavymach for short), achieved full success in its first trial production.The project adopts a compact integrated edge-trimming and scrap-chopping system (single-tower side trimmer+scrap chopper), delivering the industry’s most cost-effective revamp with optimal configuration. It successfully resolves long-standing challenges in high-strength steel and multi-specification strip edger-trimming for conventional continuous annealing lines, providing a high-efficiency, economical solution for similar production line revamp in China.

Conventional continuous annealing lines mostly adoptside trimmer and briquetting machines or edge rolling machines for the treatment of scrap edges after trimming. However, with the increasing proportion of complex materials such as high-strength steel and ultra-high-strength steel, problems such as limited trimming thickness, difficulty in handling hard materials, and large amounts of civil engineering renovationhas arisen.Compared with the traditional revamping plan that requires the dismantling of the original briquetting machine or edge rolling machine and the reconstruction of the underground structure, this revamping only achieves functional upgrades by adding the integrated equipment of "single-tower side trimmer+ scrap chopper". Without damaging the original civil structure and retaining the original equipment, Sino-hravymach has overcome technical difficulties such as the easy jamming of high-strength steel edge trimming and the precision control of soft steel edge cutting, ensuring the stable operation of the equipment under complex working conditions.

After the revamping is completed, the continuous annealing line now achieves stable processing of diverse materials ranging from deep-drawing steel to high-strength steel. Its edge-trimming capacity has increased from 1.5mm to 2.5mm, with a maximum line speed of 600m/min, fully meeting production demands. This equipment hashelped addressing the core bottlenecks of the production line with minimal investment, significantly enhancing the quality of edge trimming and production efficiency, and providing strong support for the production of high value-added products.

The successful implementation of this project has delivered substantial economic benefits for Shougang Jingtang while establishing a replicable, industry-leading model for continuous annealing line revamping.Building on this collaboration, Sino-heavymach will join hands with Shougang Jingtang to accelerate equipment upgrade across the steel industry, pioneer technological innovation in production processes, and co-create a new chapter of high-quality development.
