(Reported by Zhang Jun from Heavy Forging & Extrusion Equipment Institute) Recently, the 28 MN double-action indirect extrusion press, supplied as a complete set by China National Heavy Machinery Research Institute Co., Ltd. (Sino-heavymach for short) for Chinalco Northwest Aluminium Co., Ltd. (Northwest Aluminium for short), successfully completed the hot test in its first trial. The equipment operated stably, and all technical indicators reached to the Contract requirement.
As the first double-action indirect extrusion press supplied as a complete set by Sino-heavymach to Northwest Aluminium, and the critical equipment for Northwest Aluminium “Three‑Precision Base” project, the 28 MN extrusion press is mainly used to produce high‑precision, high‑property aluminium materials required for key sector application. It has extremely high demands for reliability, stability, and accuracy, and involves considerable technical difficulties. The project team fully leveraged their technical expertise and engineering experience in the field of aluminium alloy extrusion equipment and technology, and focused on the features of the double-action indirect extrusion press to carry out multiple innovations in core technologies such as die structure, electrical and automation control systems, and hydraulic systems. The press has been adopted an integrated multi-function indirect extrusion die, which could enable the extrusion and cylinder cleaning simultaneous, so as to improve production efficiency significantly. It is employed the technology of solid ingot online piercing and extrusion, greatly increasing material utilization and reducing production costs, and equipped with the high-precision hydraulic needle positioning system, making its positioning accuracy could reach to ±0.05mm, and the extrusion speed control precision achieve to ±0.05mm/s. This extrusion press could produce aluminium alloy tubes, bars, and sections covering 1xxx to 7xxx series, specialized in producing thin-walled tubes and pipes with outer diameters from φ30mm to φ130mm. The eccentricity of the extruded tubes and pipes remains stable at 2.3% to 2.6%, which is better than the Contract requirement (≤3%), and its key performance could match the level of international advanced equipment.
The successful running of this press will further consolidate and enhance Sino-heavymach’s position and competitiveness in the field of nonferrous high-end extrusion equipment and technology. Sino-heavymach will continue to deepen its independent research and development in extrusion equipment and technology, providing clients with more cutting-edge and reliable technological solutions, and advancing together on a new journey toward high-quality development.
